WELLS AND STREAMS

Wells

Once you get your land you will need to focus on your group’s water needs. We bought our land raw as a newborn baby. It had no well and just a seasonal stream. However, we saved up and had a well put in by professionals at a cost of $9,000.00. Since then we’ve learned how to drill wells ourselves.

Our inspiration came from http://www.howtodrillawell.com/ . Wells are not new. Pioneers have been hand-digging them for millennia. The kit we bought is a heck of a lot easier than hand-digging and thousands of dollars cheaper than using a professional well-driller. It’s still not cheap, however. Our kit plus the rental of a large air compressor cost about $600.

Our hope is that as our group work together, we will have a well for each cabin on our refuge land. We are treating each well like a community barn-raising. (We’ve done the same with some of the cabins.) Unlimited water should be the goal of every prepper.
